Paul Meusa elected new President of Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) has elected a new executive committee to serve for the 2025-2026 term.

The election took place at the National Racquet Centre and was overseen by Attorney Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Guyana Olympic Association.

Outgoing President Franklin Wilson did not seek re-election, noting that the sport certainly has progressed significantly over the two years from when he was at the helm of leadership.

He opined it was a perfect time to hand over for continuity.

The newly elected executive is:

President: Paul Meusa
Vice President: Gordon Spencer
General Secretary: Roger Rogers
Treasurer: Asha Sookoo
Public Relations Officer: Kezia Joseph
Committee members: Demetri Chan, Bjorn Williams, Keisha Abrigo

In a press statement, the new president, Paul Meusa, expressed his gratitude and outlined the federation’s priorities, including grassroots development, athlete welfare, and increased national and international competition.

The GAPLF also announced its Intermediate/Masters Powerlifting Championship, scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.

The event will feature squat, bench press, and deadlift competitions.

The event is open to the public. Weigh-ins begin at 6:00 a.m., and lifting begins at 9:00 a.m.

Ticket proceeds will support future athletic development and community fitness initiatives.
