(Trinidad and Tobago Guardian) Several Caribbean countries were rattled by two earthquakes that occurred within an eight hour period on Monday, according to the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St. Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
According to the SRC, the last tremor occurred at 9:40 am (local time) and had a magnitude of 3.9. It was located Latitude 11.86N, Longitude 61.05W and at a depth of 17 kilometres (km).
The tremor was felt 80 km east-south-east of St. George’s (the Grenadian capital), and 137 km north-north-east of Arima (in east Trinidad).
The SRC said that the first quake, with a magnitude of 3.6, occurred at 1:31 am (local time) and was located at Latitude 15.82N, Longitude 60.87W and at a depth of 19 km.
It was felt 81 km south-east of Roseau (the capital of Dominica), 88 km south-east of Guadeloupe’s capital Point-à-Pitre, and 137 km north of Fort-de-France, the capital of Martinique, the other French Caribbean island affected by the quake.
The SRC said that there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the two earthquakes that rattled the islands. —(CMC)
