17-Y-O killed in accident with drunk driver

A 17-year-old was on Sunday night killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a motorcar on the Lima Sands Access Road, Essequibo Coast.

Police said the teen, identified as Sudesh Ram John of Lima Sands, was proceeding north along the road on an unregistered motorcycle with a 21-year-old male pillion rider also of Lima Sands.

Reports are that he collided with motor car PAD 3341, driven by a 44-year-old male of Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and pillion rider were thrown onto the road surface, where they sustained injuries to their bodies.

They were assisted by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Lima Regional Hospital, where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The pillion rider was seen and examined and remains hospitalised.

A breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the motor car returned readings of 67, 75, and 73 micrograms, respectively, which are above the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

The driver of the motor car is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The body is at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
