Businessman arrested for discharging loaded firearm

A 42-year-old businessman was arrested on Sunday for discharging a loaded firearm at Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown.

Police said the incident was committed against two male individuals at about 17:00 hrs.

Acting on information received, ranks went to a residence at Shell Road, Kitty, where contact was made with the suspect. A search was conducted on his person, and one 9mm Taurus pistol, along with two magazines and twenty rounds of 9mm ammunition were found. A precept and firearm license under the name of a Transportation Service were also produced.

The firearm license was examined and corresponded to the firearm found in his possession; however, it was observed that it was not in effect for 2026.

A search was also conducted on the premises, where a motor vehicle allegedly used in the incident was found parked in the yard.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Kitty Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged along with the motor vehicle pending investigation.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
