Clerk in custody after found with 35.6 pounds of ganja

A 45-year-old office clerk was arrested on Thursday after police discovered 35.6 pounds of cannabis during a search on Lombard Street, Georgetown.

According to Police Headquarters, an intelligence-led operation was conducted at about 11:00hrs.

The clerk was initially found with a transparent zip-lock plastic bag containing cannabis.

Further enquiries led ranks to a black Toyota Allion motor vehicle, which was searched in his presence. During a search of the trunk, three large black plastic bags were found containing 14 bulky parcels wrapped in plastic. The parcels were opened in his presence and were found to be cannabis.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station. The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 35.6 pounds before being lodged.

The motor vehicle was also lodged, and the suspect remains in police custody pending charges.

Investigations are ongoing.
