Cummings Lodge residents thank President Ali for support

Residents of the new Cummings Lodge Housing Scheme have expressed gratitude to President Dr Irfaan Ali for the government’s continued investment in housing, infrastructure, and social services within the rapidly developing community.

One resident shared how the government’s initiatives transformed his life, noting that he was able to complete his Master’s degree through the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) programme and acquire his own home in the new housing scheme.

“I was able to graduate with my masters from the GOAL programme further to that I was able to have my own home here in Cummings Lodge Housing Scheme,” the resident said.

Another resident highlighted the fulfilment of government promises, such as access to potable water, proper roadways, and street lighting.

“When we first came here, the community didn’t have roads and didn’t have proper infrastructure, I am so proud and so happy to say that now we have proper roads in the community and we have all the facilities in the community,” she said.

During a recent engagement with President Ali, issues of security and squatting were also raised. One squatter living on a government reserve said the President assured residents that the necessary assistance would be provided.

“He assured me that he would render the relevant assistance that we need. We are currently squatting on government reserve lands, and he said he will ensure that we get the help required,” the resident explained.

Cummings Lodge, located along the East Coast of Demerara, is rapidly evolving into a thriving urban centre, fuelled by major public and private sector investments, modern infrastructure, and improved access to essential services.

In October last year, the Cummings Lodge Water Treatment Plant was commissioned as part of a broader plan to create a comprehensive development ecosystem in the area.

More than 1,500 homes, along with several essential facilities have been constructed with hundreds of homes occupied.

Additionally, a new police outpost was officially commissioned in May 2022 at Cummings Lodge.
