Lusignan Golf Club to host pre-Mashramani tournament on February 22

The rhythmic pulse of Guyana’s Mashramani celebrations is set to reach the fairways this weekend as the Lusignan Golf Club hosts a unique ‘Pre-Mash’ tournament and BBQ.

The event, spearheaded by Romel Bhagwandin, aims to dismantle the traditional perception of golf as an isolated, technical sport by merging it with the high-energy spirit of the nation’s Republic anniversary.

The nine-hole tournament, scheduled for Sunday, February 22, will feature local golfers competing in a condensed format that allows a swift transition from competitive play to cultural festivities.

With a 9:00 AM tee-off, the morning’s action will be followed by a midday BBQ and entertainment from Sniper Entertainment, transforming the clubhouse into a festive hub.

“Mashramani is about celebrating who we are as a people,” Bhagwandin explained. “Golf builds camaraderie and unity.

This event is about bringing those elements together in a way that reflects our national spirit.”

The initiative is part of a broader push by the Lusignan Golf Club to position itself as a community-oriented venue.

By offering a $5,000 entrance fee for players and a $2,000 “patron pass” for those solely attending the BBQ, the club is opening its gates to families and non-golfers alike.

The move mirrors a global trend in the sport, where clubs are increasingly looking to “eventise” tournament days to attract a younger, more diverse demographic.
