Henrick Serrao, a 39-year-old resident of Cummings Lodge, died on Friday after he was involved in an accident along Dennis Street, Sophia, Georgetown.
Police said the accident unfolded at around 03:00 hrs Friday, in the vicinity of the Juvenile Holding Centre, involving motor car PLL 6764 driven by a 22-year-old male of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, and motorcycle CN 4508 used by a 44-year-old male of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara. Serrao was the pillion rider.
In a report, Police Headquarters said initial enquiries revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Dennis Street, allegedly at a fast rate, when the rider reportedly lost control and collided with the motor car, which was stationary on the northern grass parapet of the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the rider and pillion rider were flung from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway, sustaining injuries to their bodies. The pillion rider was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The rider later left the scene but was subsequently contacted and arrested. CCTV footage was observed in the area and reviewed as part of the investigation. The motorcycle rider was arrested and is assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, Serrao’s body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour Mortuary.
Investigations are ongoing.
