Man on the run after critically injuring teen; Police probing ‘all relevant offences’

The Guyana Police Force says it is addressing all relevant offences in the case involving a teenager who was critically injured by a 28-year-old man, as public outrage continues to mount.

The 15-year-old student was reportedly stabbed 25 times by the man, who is said to be the father of her child, on Tuesday evening at Heatburn Village, East Bank Berbice.

Preliminary enquiries revealed that the suspect went to a residence where the teen was at the time. An altercation subsequently occurred during which the teen received several stab wounds to her body. He has since gone into hiding but is being pursued by Police.

Meanwhile, the teenager was escorted to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where she was treated and admitted to the Emergency Unit. Her condition is listed as critical.

“Investigations are ongoing and will address all relevant offences under the law arising from the circumstances of this matter,” Police said in a release on Thursday.

The matter has raised several questions, with outrage mounting over the relationship the man shared with the girl.
