Selector walks free, two others to stand trial over Raghoo bar rape

Thirty-year-old Ryan Rajnarine was on Tuesday freed of inciting rape of a young woman at Raghoo’s Bar at Soesdyke Junction during last year.

The charge was dismissed against Rajnarine after Magistrate Tameika Clarke upheld a no-case submission at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court.

Rajnarine was represented by attorney, Bernard DaSilva.

Two other accused, Leon De Freitas and Barry Sullivan, were committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

The incident occurred on July 13, 2025. The accused were charged under Section 3(3) of the Sexual Offenses Act, Chapter 8:03.

The case has sparked public outrage, prompting an official investigation. Following the incident, authorities closed the bar.

Police Headquarters confirmed that the victim reported the matter around 8:20 p.m. on July 18, stating that she had been drugged and raped, and that bystanders allegedly watched and filmed the assault without intervening.
