Stolen item recovered, four arrested after armed robbery at Herstelling

Several stolen phones, along with a quantity of suspected counterfeit cash, were recovered following an armed robbery at Herstelling New Scheme, East Bank Demerara, on Thursday night.

Police Headquarters reported that a 59-year-old businesswoman was robbed of two phones, $93, 500 in cash and other personal items by two armed men.

The incident occurred at approximately 21:15 hrs as the woman was walking along a street in the area. According to preliminary investigations, she was approached by the two men, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun and the other carrying a knife.

The suspect armed with the knife placed it to the woman’s neck and demanded her valuables, while his accomplice stood nearby holding the suspected firearm. Fearing for her life, the victim complied and handed over the items.

The suspects then reportedly escaped the scene in a motor car.

Four persons,  a 21-year-old driver, a 28-year-old labourer, a 19-year-old female, and a 24-year-old porter, all of Bougainvillea Park, were arrested and taken into custody as investigations continue.
