The inaugural Legends Republic Cup International Masters Football Tournament reached a thrilling conclusion over the weekend, as veteran stalwarts from across the region proved that class is permanent on the pitch.
Spearheaded by veteran footballer Paul D’Andrade in partnership with The Off-Road Experience (TORE), the showpiece saw Trinidad and Tobago’s T&T X Men secure the Over-50 crown, while NTC Masters dominated the Over-40 segment to cap off a weekend that celebrated the legends of Caribbean football.
The Over-50 final lived up to its billing as a clash of regional giants. T&T X Men edged past Guyana’s Pele Masters USA in a tense 1-0 encounter to claim the US $2,500 grand prize and the Banks Beer Trophy.
Despite the narrow loss, Pele Masters walked away with the US $1,000 runners-up purse, while Linden Masters secured third place. The individual honours reflected the high technical standard on display; Trevor Isaacs (Pele) was named best goalkeeper, while the clinical Basil Burke (T&T X Men) finished as the tournament’s top marksman with seven goals.
The Over-40 final was a more clinical affair, as NTC Masters surged to a 4-1 victory over Beacon FC. The win earned NTC the US $2,500 Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports purse, as they swept the individual awards in the process.
Devon Forde matched the tournament high with seven goals, while teammate Phillip Rowley was named the segment’s MVP. Bartica Masters rounded out the podium, taking home the US $500 third-place prize.
Beyond the scorelines, the tournament served as a vibrant reunion for the region’s footballing fraternity.
