Two men were arrested early Thursday morning after police discovered 24.9 pounds of suspected cannabis during a patrol exercise at Cumberland Koker, East Canje Berbice.
Police in Regional Division No. 6 reported that the discovery was made around 00:26hrs.
The suspects, a 33-year-old construction worker of Cumberland and a 34-year-old labourer of Gatetroy, Berbice River were escorted to the Reliance Police Station.
Ranks on patrol observed the two men behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of the Cumberland Koker, where a boat was docked.
A search of the boat, conducted in the presence of the men, led to the discovery of eight bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic. The parcels contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The boat was also escorted to the Central Police Station and lodged for safekeeping.
