Lomar Seecharran, the 14-year-old batting prodigy, made his loudest statement yet in the Under-16 Inter-County 50-over tournament, smashing a masterful 151 to lead Demerara to a crushing 252-run victory over the GCB Select XI at La Bonne Intention.
The win, coupled with Berbice’s 73-run triumph over Essequibo, ensures that both Demerara and Berbice will face off in Saturday’s final.

The left-hander’s appetite for runs was on show with another memorable knock. As captain, he led from the front with a 124-ball innings that featured 17 boundaries and four sixes.
His ability to pierce the gaps and clear the ropes with ease left the Select XI attack searching for answers.
Having laid the foundation for a mammoth total of 358, Seecharran retired out to allow his teammates middle-practice—a gesture of confidence from a player clearly operating at a different level.
Nathan Bishop (67) provided the perfect foil in the top order, while late cameos from Afraz Khan and Aaron Narine (31 each) propelled the score beyond the Select XI’s reach.
In post-innings comments, Bishop reflected he was gutted not to have converted his score into a century given his form.
In response, Select XI’s chase never got off the ground as spinner Makai Dowlin produced a clinical spell of 5 for 17 from his 10 overs to dismantle the Select XI for just 106.

Berbice maintain momentum
SUMMARY: Berbice 194-9 from 50 overs (Asgaralli Nabi 52, Leon Reddy 41, Altaf Ali 21, Akash Ramdewar 20; Devraj Persaud 3-42, Usain Fredricks 1-17, Jonathan Barry 1-29) beat Essequibo 121 all out in 42.1 overs (Devraj Persaud 25, Ravid Fredricks 23; Leon Reddy 2-10, Jaden Ganpat 2-17, Brandon Grimmond 2-20, Sahid Gajnabi 2-22) by 73 runs
At Lusignan, Berbice survived a middle-order wobble to post 194 for 9, thanks largely to a gritty 52 from Asgaralli Nabi and 41 from skipper Leon Reddy.
Despite a spirited all-round performance from Essequibo’s Devraj Persaud, the target of 195 proved too steep.
Essequibo’s response was stifled by a disciplined Berbice bowling unit, with Reddy returning to claim 2 for 10.
They were eventually bundled out for 121 in 42.1 overs, handing Berbice a 73-run win.
With both sides now guaranteed a spot in the final, Thursday’s scheduled clash between Demerara and Berbice has been reduced to a dead rubber in tournament terms.
However, the match serves as a high-stakes dress rehearsal and a final opportunity for individual players to stake a claim for national duty.
