A man who has only been identified as ‘Mikey’ so far was found dead at Sand Hill, near the Cuyuni River in Region Seven, and five men are in custody as investigations continue.
Police Headquarters, in a release, said the alleged murder occurred sometime between Saturday, February 28, 2026, at about 21:30hrs and Sunday, March 1, 2026, at about 08:00hrs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mikey was residing at a farm at the location along with other workers. On Saturday evening, he reportedly left the camp and went to a nearby shop in the company of another male. On Sunday morning, his lifeless body was discovered at the side of the road, several metres away from the shop.
The body was observed with multiple stab wounds to the upper body and is being escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital for an official pronouncement. Police said the man’s body will subsequently be taken to the Bartica Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Five males, including individuals who were reportedly with Mikey prior to the discovery of his body, have been arrested and are in police custody, assisting with investigations.
