A 59-year-old miner was arrested on Tuesday after he was nabbed with just over a pound of suspected cannabis during a stop-and-search operation at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint, Cuyuni River.
According to a release from Police Headquarters, ranks stopped a motor vehicle bearing trade plates, during which a search was conducted on an occupant that revealed a bulky parcel containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis hidden in a music box.
The suspect, a 59-year-old miner of Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected narcotics.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 571 grams (or about 1.2 pounds) before being lodged.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
