A 30-year-old porter was arrested on Sunday after Police in Regional Division Seven found him carrying narcotics in Milo and Nestums tins at the Sherima Police Checkpoint.
The Guyana Police Force on Monday said the man was intercepted while at the checkpoint at about 10:09 hrs. The police said the ranks stopped a motor lorry that was en route to Puruni Landing and during a search of the vehicle, police discovered a shopping bag concealed in the passenger-side storage compartment.
Inside the bag were a Milo tin and a Nestum tin, each containing transparent plastic bags with whitish, rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine, along with a quantity of pills suspected to be ecstasy.
The porter of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. Upon weighing the items, in the presence of the suspect, it amounted to 56 grammes, while the suspected ecstasy weighed 98.91 grammes before being lodged.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
