The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced that the country recorded its highest January visitor arrivals on record in 2026, welcoming 34,923 visitors.
According to the GTA, this represents a 17.2% increase when compared to January 2025, signalling a strong start to the new tourism year.
The Authority reported that the United States remained Guyana’s leading source market, accounting for 38% of total arrivals. This was followed by the Caribbean, which contributed 29%, and Latin America with 13%.
Meanwhile, Canada accounted for 8% of arrivals, while Europe contributed 6%.
The GTA said the strong January performance sets a positive tone for the remainder of 2026, as Guyana continues to benefit from public-private collaboration and strategic efforts aimed at expanding and diversifying its tourism offerings.
The agency noted that with continued development of the sector, Guyana is well-positioned to sustain visitor growth and strengthen tourism’s contribution to national development.
