Rebel Tennis Club marks 11 years with Anniversary Championship and Community Outreach

Eleven years ago, in February 2015, Head Coach Andre Erskine founded the Rebel Tennis Club (RTC) with a vision to revolutionise the sport in Guyana.

Today, that vision has evolved into one of the country’s most vibrant tennis hubs, and the club is celebrating its 11th anniversary with a month-long festival of sport, charity, and celebration.

The centrepiece of the festivities is the highly anticipated Anniversary Tennis Championship, which commenced January 30 at the GBTI Diamond Courts and runs until February 21. It is designed to showcase the full spectrum of the club’s talent, from grassroots to elite youth levels.

The championship features a robust lineup of categories, including:

  • Red Ball and Orange Ball (Under-8 & Under-10): Focusing on the “Next Gen” stars.
  • Competitive Juniors: Under-12, Under-14, and Under-18.
  • Under-25: Testing the mettle of the club’s top-tier prospects.
  • Internal Parent Competition: A fun, competitive twist allowing families to get in on the action.

With entry fees set at $2,000 for Under-10 and $3,000 for all other categories, the tournament has attracted a strong field of competitors, all vying for the title on the hard courts

In February, RTC members will head into the streets for a community outreach program aimed at pampering and supporting the homeless. This initiative reflects Coach Erskine’s philosophy of developing well-rounded citizens and skilled athletes.

“It’s about giving back,” the club noted. “We want our players to understand the importance of community and compassion alongside their competitive drive.”

For those following from home, the club is hosting a Weekly Tennis Trivia contest on their social media platforms, offering followers the chance to win prizes while testing their knowledge of the game.

The month-long celebrations will reach a grand climax on February 28th, with the annual End of Year Awards and Fundraising Cocktail Party.

This gala event will honour the top performers of the past year and serve as a vital fundraiser to support the club’s continued growth and infrastructural development.

Backed by a strong contingent of sponsors—including Smalta, Trophy Stall, Bacchus Drug Store, and Guyana America Construction Inc.—the Rebel Tennis Club enters its second decade as a cornerstone of Guyanese tennis. (Rebels Tennis Club Press Release)
