The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Saturday arrested two drivers in connection with the discovery and seizure of 8.226 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The Unit in a statement outlined that acting on information received, officers conducted an operation in Kitty, Georgetown, in the vicinity of David Street, which led to the interception of a Volkswagen motorcar and a minibus.
During the interception attempt, the driver of the motorcar, with registration number PAL 4117, fled the scene at high speed. CANU officers pursued the vehicle.
During the chase, the driver attempted to evade the officers, resulting in a collision involving several CANU vehicles.
Further, he discarded a brown cardboard box before the intersection at Sheriff St and Rupert Craig Highway which was retrieved.
However, the car was intercepted at the Sheriff St and Rupert Craig Highway where it was found to be driven by Shaquille Gordon who was alone at the time.
The brown cardboard box recovered during the pursuit was found to be carrying seven (7) brick-like parcels which later tested positive for cocaine.
Gordon along with the driver of a white Pitbull Minibus bearing registration number BAB 6337, Ravindranauth Persaud, were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic.
Investigations are ongoing.
