Former police officer dies in Corentyne accident

A former police officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Region Six lost his life after reportedly losing control of the car he was driving along the Number 74 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday at about 05:00 hrs.

Dead is 34-year-old Seon Hunte of Albert Street, Number 79 Village.

His partner, Tishana Harrilall, told the News Room that on Sunday morning she received a call informing her that Hunte had been taken to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, prompting her to rush there immediately.

She said that upon her arrival, she found him unconscious. Later that afternoon, she was informed that Hunte would need to be placed on a life support machine. However, around 19:00 hrs, she received the devastating news that he had succumbed to his injuries.

Hunte sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull, broken feet, and injuries to his throat and spine.

Harrilall recounted that Hunte had left home to travel to Georgetown when the accident occurred. He reportedly collided with a utility pole before the vehicle came to a stop in an empty lot.

The family is now grappling with the loss and struggling to come to terms with Hunte’s sudden passing.

His mother, Caroline Small, reflected on their last conversation on Valentine’s Day.

“He called me and wished me ‘Happy Valentine’s’ and he said, ‘Mommy, I love you,’ and I said, ‘I love you too, and be careful,’ and he said, ‘Yes.’ I’m glad I heard his voice that day,” Small recalled.

Hunte leaves behind two children.
