In a move that highlights the growing regional stakes of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) elections, the Trinidad-based SGI Racing team has officially endorsed Mahendra Raj Boodhoo for the presidency.
The endorsement from Superior Group Inc (SGI)—a major player in regional motorsport logistics and sponsorship—signals that the outcome of Guyana’s internal club vote is being watched closely by stakeholders across the Caribbean paddock.
SGI, which has been instrumental in transporting high-profile teams to Guyana—including Sheldon Bissessar’s Party Time Top Dragster and Team Fury—stated that Boodhoo’s track record of “dedication and professionalism” makes him the ideal candidate to navigate the sport’s next chapter.
“Caribbean motor racing stands at a pivotal moment,” said Rezan Ogeer of SGI. “The sport needs leaders who understand the intersection of competition, community development, and regional growth. We believe Mr Boodhoo possesses the strategic vision to guide the community into its next chapter.”
The endorsement serves as a reminder that the GMR&SC Presidency is no longer just a domestic role. As Guyana continues to modernise the South Dakota Circuit and attract international machinery, the ability to maintain strong ties with regional partners like Trinidad and Tobago is seen as a technical necessity.
SGI’s backing is particularly significant given their involvement with diverse racing tiers, ranging from the Grande 7 to the Richard Gardner Pulsar.
Their public support suggests a desire for administrative continuity that supports the ease of cross-border participation. (Modified Press Release)
