For the second consecutive year, Guyanese makeup artist and hairstylist Miguel Ram was among the elite professionals invited to glam up models at the prestigious New York Fashion Week.
Ram, a Venezuelan-born Guyanese, said that representing Guyana as part of MUBA The Agency stylist team has allowed him to live his dreams on the global stage.
“Don’t ever stop dreaming, your dreams are always important because without your dream, you will not know who you are,” Ram said in an interview with the News Room.

Born in Bolívar State, Venezuela, to Guyanese parents, Ram later migrated to Guyana, where he lived with his grandparents in Essequibo before moving to Georgetown. It was there that he developed a deep appreciation for Guyanese culture and began building his career in the beauty and fashion industry.
Ram believes he is Guyanese through and through, not just by heritage, but by upbringing. As a proud bilingual, he said this has given him an “edge” in navigating the Latin American and Caribbean fashion industries.
“I am fortunate that they sent me to three of them. I’m the only Guyanese that belongs to the company, I’m also the only person from the Caribbean that belongs to them too,” he said.

At New York Fashion Week, which ran from February 11 to 16, Ram worked with models from Venezuela, Ghana, Somalia, Guyana, and other countries.
“When they ask where are you from, and I say Guyana, they be like ‘wow you came til from Guyana to do just makeup for us?’ I say yes. That makes me feel quite good,” he said.
Despite his success, Ram said representing Guyana is a responsibility he does not take lightly. He hopes to see more local beauticians break into the international industry.
“The idea is for us to take over but you know we have to go inch by inch,” he said.
Locally and regionally, Ram has worked on major pageants including Miss World Guyana, Miss India Guyana, Miss Amerindian Heritage, Miss Teen Scholarship, and Miss Guyana Culture Queen. Internationally, his experience includes the Miss Universe pageant and Premios Juventud.

A major highlight of his career was styling all contestants and winners of Miss Guyana Culture Queen for three consecutive years, helping Guyana secure the Caribbean crown three years in a row.
Looking ahead, Ram said his focus remains on showcasing Guyanese talent on global stages.
“In Guyana we have great talent, it’s just that our talent isn’t shown out there but having my exposure, it’s going to be good and we will be seen. I will work hard to reach that level,” he said.
