A woman from Berbice is fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit of the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after being stabbed 25 times by the father of her child.
The injured woman is Tiana Chapman, 15, from Pepper Street, Heat Burn Village, East Bank Berbice.
Her aunt, Donzel Denhert, told reporters that around 21:00 hours on Tuesday, her nephew informed her about Tiana’s condition. When she reached the scene, just a street away, she found Tiana wrapped in a blood-soaked sheet and being transported to the hospital, where she is currently receiving care in the ICU.

Donzel mentioned that the violent incident appeared to have occurred around 20:00 hours at the cousin’s house of the suspect.
With Tiana’s mother working in another region, she was left to look after her younger siblings. Tiana and her 28-year-old child’s father, who also resides in the same village, had reportedly been in a relationship for some time, resulting in the birth of their 10-month-old child.
According to Donzel, Tiana suffered 25 stab wounds.
“We want the police investigate and see what really going on. We want them catch this boy. They have to catch him,” she relayed.
Donzel added that Tiana’s relationship with her child’s father has been complicated by police involvement and Welfare services since she is underage. She said Tiana had previously reported instances of abuse to her.
“Long he was going around with her and they talking to him and tell him stay away from her but he isn’t staying away from her, and this is it. All we does do is just talk to her and she don’t listen. And he ain’t leaving her. When he go away and come back he deh looking for her, walking behind her all over the place,” she explained.
The suspect is on the run.
The specifics leading to the stabbing remain unclear.
Attempts to reach Region Six Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus for further details about the incident have been unsuccessful.
