A 22-year-old Venezuelan labourer is hospitalised after two males on a motorcycle robbed him of several items on Saturday night.
The Guyana Police Force on Monday said the investigation into the matter is ongoing. It revealed that the man was robbed and sustained injuries on Saturday night at about 19:40 hrs, at Flamboyant Street, Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara.
The Police said the victim left a supermarket in the area and was walking east along the street when two identifiable males on a motorcycle approached him. The pillion rider dismounted and confronted the victim, after which a scuffle ensued. During the confrontation, the pillion rider allegedly discharged a firearm, causing the victim to receive injuries to his left leg. The man was then relieved of a cellular phone and $30,000.
The men then fled the scene and Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, after which the man was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.
Police said a 9mm spent shell was recovered and lodged, and the CCTV cameras in the area will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
