Joel Anthony Tamesar, a 28-year-old construction worker of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, died after he was stabbed during an altercation on Sunday.
Police Headquarters reported that Tamesar was in a Lust-en-Rust shop when he got into a fight with a 38-year-old man sometime between 19:30 hrs and 19:45 hrs. During the altercation, the 38-year-old man allegedly armed himself with a knife and inflicted a stab wound to the left side of Tamesar’s chest before fleeing the scene in a southern direction.
Tamesar was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
The body was subsequently escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home; an autopsy will be conducted.
Police later arrested the suspect at Lust-En-Rust, where he was found hiding in a trench. He is presently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
