A quiet Wednesday evening in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was shattered after armed bandits carried out a brazen robbery targeting a family at their residence.
According to preliminary police investigations, the ordeal began when a 53-year-old housewife and a 24-year-old woman returned home and were about to enter their residence. At that moment, they were confronted by two masked men, both reportedly armed with what appeared to be handguns.
The suspects allegedly moved swiftly, relieving the younger woman of her cellular phone. During the confrontation, the 53-year-old housewife was struck to her forehead with one of the weapons. The perpetrators then took possession of her purse, which contained a cellular phone and $20,000 in Guyana currency.
The situation escalated further as the suspects reportedly forced their way into the lower flat of the home. There, they encountered the housewife’s young daughter along with her younger siblings. The children were also robbed, with the bandits taking a tablet computer and another cellular phone.
After executing the robbery, the suspects fled the scene and joined two accomplices who were waiting on separate black XR motorcycles. The group then made good their escape, heading in a northern direction.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident as efforts continue to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
