Suspect arrested after Golden Grove fisherman fatally stabbed 

Elton Lilly, a 55-year-old fisherman of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was allegedly murdered on Sunday, and the 49-year-old suspect has been arrested.

In a release, Police Headquarters said the alleged murder occurred on Sunday at about 23:05 hours.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Lilly and the suspect, who are known to each other, were allegedly imbibing at a bar located along the Golden Grove Public Road when an altercation reportedly ensued between them. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Lilly.

Ranks responded to the report and, on arrival, observed Lilly lying in a pool of blood with several wounds about his body. A knife suspected to be the murder weapon was found in the vicinity of the bar and was secured.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where Lilly was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. His body was subsequently identified by a male relative and escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect, a 49-year-old security guard of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was subsequently arrested and placed in custody.

Investigations are continuing.
