Curtis Bengochea, 28, a construction worker of Eight Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, was fatally stabbed on Saturday following an argument with another man.
In a release, Police Headquarters said ranks are investigating the alleged murder which occurred on Saturday at First Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Bengochea and the suspect, who are known to each other, were allegedly imbibing along with other persons when an argument reportedly ensued.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Bengochea. The men subsequently ended up in a nearby drain, where a scuffle reportedly continued before they were separated by other persons at the scene.
Shortly after, Bengochea was pulled from the drain, and a wound was observed on his left side ribs area, while the suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot.
Bengochea was later escorted to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. It was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, who is presently at large, is being sought as investigations continue.
