Venezuelan national, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo, the alleged mastermind behind the deadly explosion at the Mobil gas station, reiterated that he acted alone and urged the Court to free the other individuals on trial.
He expressed these sentiments on Monday when case was called before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
During the hearing, Poedemo raised his hand and through a translator, repeated that he alone was responsible for the October 26, 2025 attack. He called for the other accused to be released, saying they were not involved.
However, Magistrate McGusty explained that even though he has admitted responsibility and wants his alleged accomplices freed, the court cannot simply release them. She stressed that a proper legal process must be followed.
She said the defence must first submit its proposal to the prosecution, which will then send it to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP will then review the evidence against each accused before making any decision.
The prosecutor also reminded the court that Poedemo’s admission only applies to him and not the other accused.
Meanwhile, Poedemo’s attorney, Shellon Boyce, informed the court that the case has reached a stage where a written report must be prepared and submitted to the prosecution. She requested two weeks to complete this, noting that translation is needed due to a language barrier. Prosecutor Mandell Moore did not object and said that after the report is submitted, it will be sent to the DPP for review. He also agreed to the two-week timeline.
The case was adjourned to May 20, 2026.
Poedemo, along with Alexander Bettencourt, Johnny Boodram and Krystal La Cruz, are jointly charged in connection with the attack.
The other three accused—Wayne Correia, Ramesh Pramdeo, and Jennifer Rodriguez—are facing separate charges in other magisterial districts.
The October 26, 2025 attack had resulted in the death of young Soraya Bourne.
