Murders, robberies & rape significantly reduced – Top Cop

Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken has reported a 20% reduction in serious crimes over the past year.

He attributed the decline to stronger collaboration within communities and the increased use of technology.

According to the Commissioner, murders have decreased by 18% compared to 2025, while robberies under arms have fallen by 7%.

Meanwhile, break and enter with larceny has declined by 15%, and rape cases have dropped from 87 in 2025 to 53 in 2026.

In relation to the seizure of unlicensed firearms, a total of 51 were confiscated across the country as part of efforts to curb gun-related crimes.

He also noted that, through the work of its community relations department, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is fostering stronger ties with civilians, leading to greater cooperation in solving crimes.
