Guyanese Kevin Christian slams century, six sixes in one over in Commonwealth Cricket League

Former Guyana youth cricketer Kevin Christian was in blistering form on Sunday last, racing to a match-winning century for West Coast Warriors against Punjab Pura in the Commonwealth Cricket League Division II 30-over tournament in New York.

Chasing 233 in a game reduced to 25 overs per side, West Coast Warriors achieved victory at 238-6 with exactly three overs to spare with the right-handed Christian leading the charge.

The 25-year-old slammed 104 off 44 balls, striking 10 sixes and six fours.

Such was Christian’s dominance that in the 12th over he deposited off-spinner Chandan Mohapatra for six sixes, becoming the first player from West Coast Warriors to achieve the remarkable feat.

The victory charge was set up by a 132-run third wicket partnership between Christian and Chandrapaul Persaud, who made 23 off 25 (1×4, 1×6).

After Christian’s destructive innings, Yutesh Avi Dhanpaul pulled West Coast Warriors over the line with an unbeaten 43 off 23 (8x4s).

Opener Youghestir Bachan also chipped in with 25 off 11 (4x4s, 1×6).

Kulwinder Shanty Singh with 2-49 was the most successful bowler for Punjab Pura, who made 232-8 batting first.

Singh was also in the runs, hitting a whirlwind 80 off 34 (3x4s, 8x6s), while opener Roma Garcha made 49 off 28 (4x4s, 4x6s), Lavi Singh 27 off 28 (4x4s), Sukhpal Singh 26 off 20 (2x4s, 1×6) and Jagjit Singh 22 off 28 (1×4, 1×6).

Bowling for West Coast Warriors, Bachan picked up 3-34 and Javed Shafeek 2-45.
