Welder robbed at gunpoint

A Welder of Plantation Farm, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Saturday evening robbed of a necklace allegedly valued at $500,000.

Police in a statement said the Robbery Under Arms occurred at about 18:02h at Nelson Mandela Avenue and Hibiscus Street, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, 46 years old, was in front of a shop when two suspects, who were on a black Honda XR motorcycle, approached from a northern direction.

The pillion rider reportedly dismounted the motorcycle and held onto the victim’s chain, which was around his neck. A scuffle ensued, during which the suspect allegedly discharged two rounds in the air.

The scene was processed, and two 9mm spent shells were recovered and lodged.

CCTV cameras were observed in the area and will be reviewed.

No arrest has been made.
