Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are investigating an incident at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara (ECD), which has left two persons missing after they were reportedly swept away by strong currents on Sunday afternoon.
Missing are Lyodisa Waldron, called “Loyda,” a 20-year-old salesgirl of Victoria Village, ECD, and Andri Francis, called “Bobby,” a 31-year-old Special Constable of the same community.

According to initial investigations, the incident occurred at about 14:00 hrs while the pair were swimming at Unity Beach. Waldron reportedly began drifting further out into the Atlantic Ocean and called for assistance.
Francis reportedly went to her aid, but both individuals were subsequently pulled under by the current and disappeared.
An alarm was raised and searches were immediately conducted at the beach and surrounding areas in an effort to locate the pair. However, up to the time of reporting, neither person had been found.
Search operations are continuing as police investigations remain ongoing.
