And this new safari, the President said, should be the first of its kind in the region – yet another reason why it would make for an attractive product.

But that’s not all.

The establishment of a new ecotourism resort that would see Guyana combining its ecotourism with Barbados’ “sun, sand and sea” is another investment being pursued, the Head of State said.

This joint effort would appeal to a wider cross section of travellers, allowing people to enjoy the best of both worlds, President Ali posited.

He also said that the government was seeking to tap into the nascent, global wellness tourism sector because Guyana has a “natural capability” to offer wellness services.

Days ago, during the visit of renowned Peace Ambassador, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Head of State announced that the government was eyeing the development of an ayurvedic centre which, essentially, includes the use of traditional Indian medicine.

Health and science initiatives and sports tourism are also being undertaken to make Guyana a premier tourist destination.

Altogether, President Ali believes that the tourism sector would help to herald in Guyana’s development.

“This is no guesswork; this is strategic thinking and planning.

“It is all about positioning Guyana into new transformative areas,” he said.
