Other sections of the port, including facilities to aid with the export of agricultural products and containerised cargo, should be operational by 2023.

Importantly, Executive Chairman of CGX Energy Dr. Suresh Narine told the News Room that an additional US $30 million could be spent to expand the services provided at the Port even further.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who commissioned the new access bridge on Friday, stated that such investments are only a small part of the plans for the region.

Importantly, however, he said that developing Region Six is linked to a wider strategy of positioning Guyana as a regional hub. The country is expected to enhance cooperation with Brazil and Suriname as it develops its natural resources, particularly its oil and gas resources.

“… Region Six has the important catalytical push to bring a trans-border push,” President Ali stated.
