Prime Suspect in Albouystown murder probe nabbed in Suriname and sent back to Guyana

Three days after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest, West Ruimveldt teenager Ezekiel Hawker was arrested in Suriname and handed over to local authorities.

The 18-year-old was wanted for the murder of Albouystown resident Deon Charles on Christmas Eve night in Alboystown.

A police statement said law enforcement agencies in Suriname were asked to be on the lookout for the suspect. He was nabbed in Suriname on Wednesday and immediately handed over to the Guyana Police.

Since his return to Guyana, the Police said he has been questioned about the shooting death of the Albouystown man Deon Charles.

The Police said the youth told investigators that he shot and killed Deon Charles after seeing him on Christmas Eve night in James Street, Albouystown. According to the Police, the youth told investigators that the same man shot him twice in the past.

Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum said investigators also have the driver of the car that youth used to flee the scene after the shooting death. The driver is cooperating with the investigators.

The Police said once the investigation is completed, the file will be sent for legal advice.

The Guyana Police Force has offered thanks to its counterparts in neighbouring Suriname for the assistance in arresting the murder suspect.
