$450K bail for taxi driver charged with death of Bare Root housewife

Gordon Vantull, a 57-year-old taxi driver of Section ‘B’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was charged on Monday for causing death by dangerous driving

He appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, pleaded not guilty, and was placed on $450,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to March 5, 2024.

Vantull was charged relative to a fatal accident that occurred at about 02:35 hrs on Sunday on the Beterverwagting Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The accident resulted in the death of Denise Paul, a 54-year-old housewife of Bare Root, East Coast Demerara.

Vantull was the driver of motor car # PKK 4206 in which Paul was reportedly seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Vantull is accused of driving at a fast rate, losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a median.

As a result of the collision, Paul was flung out of the vehicle and received injuries on her body. The Ambulance service was summoned to the scene, and the woman was seen and examined by a Doctor who pronounced the body dead at the scene.
