What began as an ordinary Sunday ended in heartbreak for a Williamsburg family, after 31-year-old Haresh Gopilall left home promising to return for his meal—but never came back.

His mother, Domatie Surujall, is now grappling with unimaginable grief after her son was killed in a crash along the Williamsburg Public Road, Corentyne Berbice, on Sunday night.
In an emotional interview, Surujall recalled their final moments together at their Lot 25 ‘D’ home. She said her son had assured her he would return shortly, but as time passed and he did not come home, she became increasingly worried.
Hours later, the devastating news arrived—Gopilall had been involved in a serious accident and was taken to the hospital. When relatives rushed to the medical facility, they were informed that he had not survived the injuries he sustained.
A postmortem examination conducted on Monday confirmed that Gopilall died from multiple injuries consistent with a motor vehicle crash.
Overcome with grief, Surujall is now calling for accountability. “I need justice for my son,” she said.
Gopilall, described as a devoted father of one, has left a deep void in the lives of his loved ones and the wider community.
According to police reports, the fatal accident occurred around 21:00 hrs and involved motor lorry GVV 5043, owned by an engineering company based in Timehri and driven by a 27-year-old man from Covent Garden.

The lorry was reportedly proceeding east along the northern lane at a normal rate of speed when Gopilall, who was riding motorcycle CR 1603 with pillion rider Yedesh Singh, 27, of Fyrish Village, was traveling in the opposite direction at a high speed.
Police said the lorry driver suddenly turned right into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision in the southern lane.
The impact threw both men off the motorcycle, leaving them seriously injured. Gopilall was transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while Singh sustained a fractured jaw and clavicle and was stabilised at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
The driver of the lorry was subjected to a breathalyser test, which recorded readings of 31 and 32 micrograms. He remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
