The 12th Massy Distribution Under-18 School tournament has been narrowed to four teams after Sunday produced a goal-laden afternoon of drama at the Queen’s College Ground.
Chase’s Academic Foundation provided the day’s headline, sending a chilling warning to their rivals with a ruthless 11-2 demolition of Region Seven’s Three Mile Secondary.
After falling at the final hurdle in 2025, the Georgetown powerhouses looked like a side on a mission to make amends, and they were led by hat-tricks from both Mark Glasgow and Shaquan David.
Despite an early double from Three Mile’s Lebron Mendonca that briefly offered a glimmer of hope, the floodgates opened before the interval. By the time the dust settled, Nyron Barrow had secured a brace, with Germaine Garrett, Micah Boode, and Jaden Christian also getting in on the act to complete the rout.
While Chase won with a swagger, Charlestown Secondary had to do it the hard way. In a pulsating clash with New Amsterdam Secondary that served as the day’s opening act, the two sides could not be separated after 80 minutes of regulation time.
Adion Marks finally broke a tense deadlock in the 60th minute, only for Domonique Rodrigues to hit back almost instantly. The script repeated itself late on; Omari Cassius restored Charlestown’s lead in the 70th minute, but Clevon Cort showed immense character to level the scores just two minutes later.
With the match poised at 2-2, it came down to a penalty shootout to decide matters, where Charlestown showed greater composure to prevail 3-1.
In the day’s other fixtures, Santa Rosa Secondary proved far too clinical for Annandale Secondary.
Shane James was the hero for the Region One outfit, netting twice to dampen Annandale spirits after Ronoko Morris had briefly made it 1-1. A late strike from Darren Williams ensured a 3-1 victory and safe passage to the final four.
West Ruimveldt ensured they would be joining them, bringing the curtain down on the quarter-final stage with a dominant 5-1 win over St. Joseph High.
Donovan Welcome spearheaded the charge with two clinical first-half finishes, while Lyndon Gray and Dellon Philadelphia effectively ended the contest before the break. Laurel George pulled one back for St. Joseph on the stroke of halftime, but Dominic Lesperance added a fifth late on to put the gloss on a commanding performance.
The focus now shifts to the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue on Sunday for the semi-finals, where Chase’s Academy faces Charlestown at 17:00h, followed by Santa Rosa against West Ruimvelt at 19:00h.
At stake is a place in the grand final and a $300,000 prize for a school project of the winners’ choosing, while second and third place will get G$200,000 and G$100,000, respectively.
