Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) Guyana Inc officially opened its new US$35 million integrated industrial facility on Thursday, marking a major investment in Guyana’s rapidly expanding economy and industrial sector.
The ceremony held at its Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara location, brought together government officials, business leaders, and representatives from Caterpillar Latin America to celebrate the landmark moment for the country’s development.

President of Macorp Guyana, German Consuegra, said the project represents the fulfillment of a long-term vision that began decades ago when the company first established operations here 1993.
“Three years ago, this was an empty piece of land with only foundation piles and a small project team. oday, it has become a world-class industrial complex designed to support Guyana’s growing mining, construction, agriculture, and infrastructure sectors,” Consuegra said.
The spanking new facility spans more than 450,000 square feet across seven specialised buildings and includes advanced environmental systems, backup power solutions, technical workshops, and a training center aimed at developing local technical talent.
Consuegra said that more than 1,400 people were involved in the project. He said the involvement of local contractors, technicians, and women-led businesses, all support the broader initiative– providing opportunities for locals. He also added that over two million work hours were completed without a single lost-time injury.

Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill described the investment as another strong vote of confidence in Guyana’s economic transformation.
“Companies do not invest millions of U.S. dollars unless they believe in the long-term prospects of a country,” Edghill said.

He added that the country is positioning itself as a logistics, energy and industrial hub for the Caribbean and South America, making this investment a massive nod to support this idea.
MACORP is the authorised Caterpillar dealer in Guyana, providing heavy equipment, energy, marine, and agricultural solutions in support of the country’s key industries for over 30 years.
