A police officer was injured on Sunday following a road traffic accident on the Hague Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The accident occurred at about 12:03 hrs and involved a Force motorcycle, registration number CR 6252, ridden by a Police Corporal attached to the Regional Police Division 3 Traffic Department, and motor car PPP 758, driven by a 39-year-old man of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Investigations revealed that the motor car was initially stationary on the northern side of the roadway facing east. The driver then made a U-turn across the road, resulting in a collision with the approaching police motorcycle, which was proceeding east along the northern side of the Hague Public Road.
As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the roadway, sustaining injuries to his body.
He was assisted by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital while conscious. He was later transferred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical treatment.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the motor car showed no trace of alcohol. He is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
