Second man dies after river accident near Tapir Landing

Police have confirmed a second death following the fatal river mishap that occurred on Thursday, in the vicinity of Tapir Landing along the Cuyuni River.

Dead is Enzo Mateus Alves De Aviz, a 23-year-old Brazilian national and gold miner of Tipir Backdam and Belem City, Para State, Brazil. His death follows that of Steve Daniels, a 57-year-old boat captain of Kartabo Village, Lower Mazaruni River, who died during the incident.

According to police, De Aviz was initially admitted to the Bartica Regional Hospital in a serious condition after the mishap. On Friday at approximately 08:45 hrs, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical treatment.

However, police said that around 22:00 hrs on the same day, De Aviz succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

His body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
