Police are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cocaine found on Tuesday during an operation conducted at Onderneeming Sand Pit Junction, Essequibo Coast.
According to reports, around 17:40hrs, ranks were carrying out an exercise when they stopped a motor car traveling north along the Essequibo Coast Public Road, which subsequently turned onto the Onderneeming access road.
A search was carried out on a 16-year-old male occupant of Essequibo Coast, during which officers allegedly found a transparent zip-lock bag containing several whitish, creamish rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine in his pants pocket.
The teenager was arrested and taken to the Suddie Police Station, where the suspected narcotic was weighed in his presence and amounted to 3.4 grams before being lodged as evidence.
Police said the teen’s parents were contacted, and the Child Care and Protection Agency was also informed.
Investigations are ongoing.
