Guyanese archers bag 14 medals at Caribbean Developmental League

Guyana’s rising archery stars have laid down a serious marker ahead of hosting the Caribbean Development Championships, walking away with a spectacular 14-medal haul at the 2026 Caribbean Developmental Archery League (CDAL) Championships.

The remote tournament—sanctioned by World Archery Americas—saw Guyana’s next generation face off against the region’s best from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

By the time the final arrows settled, Guyana had firmly hit the bullseye, securing five gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.

The CDAL’s unique remote format allowed athletes to compete from their home ranges under strict World Archery rules, with judges monitoring their performances in real time.

The structure is specifically designed to transition grassroots talent into international contenders.

For Archery Guyana President, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the results are proof that the country’s youth development pathways are working seamlessly.

“To secure fourteen medals across multiple categories is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the progress being made by our athletes and coaching team,” Persaud-McKinnon said.

“We are particularly encouraged by the performances of our young and developing archers, who continue to demonstrate that Guyana has a bright future in the sport.”

This massive medal haul could not have come at a better time as the experience gained here will be vital as these foundational archers look ahead to October 2026, when Guyana will host the prestigious Caribbean Development Championships (CDC) at the Guyana National Stadium.
